Two years ago, my mother and father presented me with “The Red Dress” as I like to refer to it. (Click here for the original story about “The Red Dress”) I had gastric bypass in October 2006, and on Christmas day, 2006, my parents made a big deal in front of the entire family when they presented my gift. Inside the garment box was a beautiful red dress that would not even fit ONE LEG on my morbidly obese body! My parents believed in me, and believed that by the next Christmas 2007, I would be in the dress and wear it on Christmas Day. I must admit, I had some doubts but kept them secretly to myself.
Last year, I wore the red dress to my parents’ home for all to see. This year I could not allow the season to pass without wearing it at least once. So tonight for our church Christmas banquet, I wore it. For the second year in a row, the red dress that many believed would never fit has become my season outfit. Although dress styles and colors will come and go, I believe that I will wear this dress every year at Christmas until I am no longer able to wear it!
Here is the picture of Christmas 2006, should you want to compare the two:
