I LOVE PRESENTS!  My friend, Cari (Gastric Bypass Barbie), gave me the most wonderful gift yesterday.  It’s a Beautiful Blogger Award!   This means so much to me!

I see other folks all over the internet who have lots of awards much like a girl scout who has the most patches.  But, I was never in the girl scouts.  And, I never had any patches.  It always makes me a little envious to see others have great awards.  And I wonder…  “How can I get me one of those?”  Heck, I’ve even thought a time or two about creating my own blogger award and sticking it on there just ‘cuz I can!  But now…  I don’t have to create anything.  I have an award that was bestowed on me!  Woo hoo!  Thanks, Cari!

First, let me show you what my beautiful award looks like (it’s REALLY PRETTY!)

MY VERY OWN BEAUTIFUL BLOGGER AWARD!

Next, I have to give a speech….<takes microphone>  phftt phftt testing, 1, 2, 3…  phhftt, “is this thing on?”   Here’s some facts about me:

#1 – I was born in a town that is known as “Home of the White Squirrel.”  If you’ve never seen one, here’s  a picture.  I haven’t been back in several years, but when I was young, you could see white squirrels everywhere.  I haven’t actually seen a white squirrel anywhere else!

#2 – I have been on several mission trips as a teenager, once to Nassau, Bahamas and another time to Colombia, South America.  I actually considered a life as a missionary but decided that eating bugs and everything else served to me wasn’t quite the lifestyle I wanted!  While in Colombia, I was almost hit by a speeding bus and I contribute my life today to the grace of God.  Thank you, Lord for thinking of me and having a plan past my teenage years!

This isn’t a pic from my collection, but it is how I remember South America.

#3 – When I was born, I weighed just 5 lbs, 2 ounces.  They say that small babies end up being large adults. I guess they were right.  However, I spent my adult life lying to folks, saying I was big boned.  Little did I know and found out after losing 135 lbs, I have a tiny frame!  WHODATHUNKIT??  And, my mother said I was so little that I could have fit into a shoe box.

#4 – I have two brothers and a sister.  But, many do not know I have any siblings as I suffer from my own self proclaimed “Only Child Syndrome.”  I act as if I really am the only child.  Not that I don’t like my siblings; they are great people.  But, I just love attention!

#5 – I have a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies.  Yes, I could preach.  No, I won’t as I’m sure you hear all sorts of sermons everywhere else…  but, I’ve been through Homeletics, Hermeneutics, Old Testament, New Testament, oh just all sorts of biblical classes.  Most would be shocked to know that tidbit.

This picture has nothing to do with Bible College; I just like to think of God as a light in a dark place, thus the ray of light.

#6 – And last and certainly least…  I’d like to end with this thought.  I’m no one special.  I’m just a girl who once was obese.  Now I’m not.  I had gastric bypass surgery in October 2006, and thankfully I have a new life.  I’ve never been the same.  This blog came as a result of all the thoughts and feelings which occurred in my life since that time…  once I started blabbing, I never shut up!

I also want to pass the award on to my wonderful inspiration, Linda at Eating Well, Living Thin.  She has been like a bariatric momma to me, teaching me things about cooking (although at times, it seems like its impossible!).

That was great Mel but you made a mistake. You are someone special. Those of us that have “heard” the support and guidance you’ve given others know it. Your own special “ministry” if you will and I’m glad to have found you. Mikki
