It’s Come To This

The amount of pills I take every day just continues to increase.  And, only THREE of them are prescription.  The rest?  Supplements.  I got sick of carrying around a baggy full of pills with a little typed card inside that I pull out every “dose”.  I’d go down through the list and divvy out my pills, and figured it was time to get a better system.  So, I went to Walgreens today and bought this pill organizer.

As soon as I got home, I laid out all the bottles on the kitchen cabinet and filled each pill section with its appropriate dose of pills.  Let’s see if I can name them all:

  • Multivitamin
  • Calcium Citrate
  • Sublingual B12
  • B Complex
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D (Dry)
  • Vitamin D (gel cap)
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid – non wls related
  • Chromium Picolinate – non wls related
  • Wellbutrin
  • Spironolactone
  • Iron
  • Probiotics
  • CoQ10 – non wls related
  • And now, add a Ortho Evra patch which gets changed 1x weekly (thanks again, Mirena!)

Oh, and also…  some anti-biotic that the doctor prescribed for a week after the Mirena IUD to prevent infection.  And, don’t forget that with malabsorption, I’m not just taking one multivitamin a day.  NO sirreee!  I take 3 (THREE) a day, same for the other supps…  I need more than one per day (all dosages for different supps vary).  You can see now why I needed the little pill organizer, just to keep them all straight.  If that weren’t enough, I have added reminders to my cell phone.  It goes off at the time of day that the dosages are due.  My memory has gotten pretty bad (thanks, Mirena!) and in the meantime, while waiting on the symptoms to subside after the removal…  I’ll use this organizer…  Makes me feel kind of like a senior citizen.

    Melinda,
I’d like to hear how things go with this pill organizer. I have been searching for one to fit my needs, and have not found anything that can do all that I need it to do. I like to keep my large chewable suppliments (like calcium and Vit C) with my other pills, but also need the organizer to be somewhat portable so it will fit in my lunch box. I’m almost to the point now of trying to invent my own. I hope you will post a review of your pill organizer in about a month, let us know how it is working.
Thank you for all the inspiration you provide me!

Erin, so far I like the organizer. It allows me to have 4 dosage times daily. My morning dose has the most pills (10 or 11), and one of those is about the size of a nickel in diameter. I don’t use the large chewable multi & calcium tabs, however. Instead, I use Celebrate swallowable tabs. If a person uses those larger tabs, they might encounter problems as the compartments are not THAT large. I will do an experiment to see if I can get a chewable multi & calcium inside and report back.

So, this would actually *replace* the little snack sized ZIPLOK baggies I’ve been carrying around? Oh…I dunno….it seems so…serious! ;-) Kidding — what a great idea! I had no idea they even MADE one this big. All of the ones I saw were dinky! Thanks, Mel :-D

Cari, they make one that is even bigger!! It is humongous! I am going to find a picture of it and let you see… Using a pill organizer sort of made me feel old! LOL, but I really do like to fill up all the compartments one day a week and then grab them each morning.
